Gary Lashmar
Chief Operating Officer
Year Started in Insurance: 1981. Gary joined Alesco as Chief Operating Officer in January, 2015. He started his London Market career in 1981 and spent 32 years with a large Global Insurance Broker holding a variety of Operational Roles culminating in becoming their Chief Operating Officer in 2005, before joining Alesco. Gary has been involved across multiple business classes and has overseen the implementation of London Market Systems, been involved in Offshoring initiatives and has also been on a number of project teams on several significant M&A deals. He is also the Chairman of Risk Management Partners, a dedicated public sector insurance business, who are also aligned with Alesco.
Martin Emkes
Chairman / Managing Partner
Year Started in Insurance: 1983. Martin is Alesco Chairman and Managing Partner of the Property and Special Risks division and, as such, has overall responsibility for all large account structured programmes. Specialist teams include Property, Casualty, Terrorism, A&H, PA and Special risks and our ART business. Martin and his teams work together on many of our largest global accounts, designing and placing many of the more complex programs within the group. The focus is cross-class and worldwide, concentrating on resolving issues ranging from traditional Property and Liability placements to finite risk, credit enhancement and project finance. Martin has over 30 years of insurance experience, including ten years as a pioneer of Alternative Risk Transfer techniques. Martin started his career at Fenchurch in 1983. Since 1993, Martin has focused upon large corporate clients’ exposures including Property General Liability, Directors’ & Officers’ Liability and Errors & Omissions including Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) market for some of the largest and more difficult risks.
Simon Matson
CEO
Year Started in Insurance: 1989. Simon is the founding Partner of Alesco. As Managing Partner, he is responsible for the leadership of the Alesco team and also maintains an active role in the market. Simon started his career in 1989 in the oil and gas division of a global insurance broker and his experience has been exclusively in the energy sector. Simon left his role of Head of Upstream Energy broking in 2008 to found Alesco. Simon has many years’ experience coordinating and marketing large upstream accounts.
Tom Payne
Managing Partner - Casualty
Year Started in Insurance: 1987 Tom is Managing Partner of the Alesco Casualty Division with responsibilities for Team Management, Account Production, Account Servicing and Product Development. Tom began his career in 1987 in a Global Casualty team, handling all aspects of Account Management. Tom went on to become Managing Director of Casualty, Property and Professional Risks but maintained a focus on Casualty business production and Product Development. Tom moved his entire Casualty team and portfolio of business to Arthur J. Gallagher in June 2011 and took up the role of Chairman of Casualty. In 2013, the team transferred to Alesco, maintaining a focus on energy and non-energy Casualty business. Tom and his team have specialised in all areas of Liability risks. This specialism involves all aspects from programme design to placing and client support and servicing.
