Arjan van Aalst
Marine Surveyor, Special Casualty Representative (SCR) and Former Salvage Master
Arjan is a qualified master mariner and marine engineer with 12 years of seagoing experience on board various types of vessels including general cargo and container vessels up to the rank of first maritime officer. After his career at sea, Arjan worked as a salvage master in the Dutch salvage industry for 5 years. In this position he was responsible for the successful completion of many high profile salvage cases and wreck removals. Arjan joined BMT Surveys in 2012 and works from the Rotterdam and London office dealing with technical and salvage related matters, ranging from in-depth studies to emergency response actions. In 2016 Arjan was appointed as Special Casualty Representative (SCR) by Lloyds.
Danny van der Ent
Marine Surveyor / Salvage & Towage Consultant
Danny is a Master Mariner with 11 years of seafaring experience and 12 years of marine experience in shore based organisations. During his seagoing career, Danny worked in various senior command levels on different types of ships, including ocean towage vessels, off shore supply vessels and Liquefied Gas Carriers. He holds his “Master-All Ships Ticket" and has worked as (tow) Master with Fairplay Towage and Fairmont Marine where he was responsible for the largest ocean towage projects. Subsequently, Danny worked as superintendent with Smit International and was a Salvage Master with Mammoet Salvage for the last 4 years before joining BMT Surveys. Danny is based in the Rotterdam office and dealing with marine, technical and salvage / towage related matters, ranging from on-site attendance, reporting on extent and causation, in-depth studies and emergency response actions.
Dennis de Bruin

Marine Director & Marine Surveyor
Dennis has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Studies and Marine Engineering. He has sea-going experience up to the rank of Chief Officer on tankers and general cargo vessels. Dennis joined BMT Surveys in 2004 as a Marine Surveyor. In 2014 Dennis was appointed as Marine Director being responsible for managing the nautical and cargo department.
Gerrit Glazema

Marine Surveyor
Gerrit is a Master Mariner (unlimited tonnage) with over 30 years of experience at sea of which 17 years as master on various types of vessels. Subsequently he fulfilled various supervisory and management functions with a large Dutch shipping firm up to the rank of fleet director where he was responsible for fleet quality, classification, cargo care, nautical operations and audit. He has experience as Designated Person Ashore for ISM qualification.
Ivo Bezuijen
Marine Surveyor
Ivo is a dual educated mariner with a bachelor degree in Nautical studies and Marine Engineering. He joined BMT Surveys in 2013 as a licenced Chief Officer with 5 years of experience as a deck officer on various vessels, including tankers. Since then Ivo has investigated various marine casualties and he has provided consultancy for P&I Clubs on transport of liquid cargoes overseas. He has also been involved in the investigation of container collapse incidents. Ivo is stationed in Rotterdam.
James van der Heiden
Marine Surveyor
James is a Master mariner with engineering qualifications. He has over 8 years of experience on board of dry cargo vessels and chemical tankers up to the level of Master. James joined the technical department of the Rotterdam office in 2006.
Jeroen de Haas
Managing Director, BMT Surveys (Rotterdam)
Jeroen de Haas is Managing Director of BMT Surveys (Rotterdam). He has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical and Marine Engineering studies from the Maritime Institute De Ruyter, Flushing and holds a maritime officer foreign-going certificate of competency with combined qualification for deck officer and marine engineer. He also holds an honours degree in Maritime Sciences, gained (cum laude) at the University of Antwerp. Jeroen has been active in the international surveying business for more than 20 years. Following the acquisition of De Beer by BMT in 2001, Jeroen became Managing Director of BMT Surveys (former BMT De Beer). Alongside his management activities, Jeroen acts as a marine consultant specialising in issues related to the transport of containers, in particular lashing and securing matters and container collapse incidents. He has written expert reports in litigation, arbitration and meditation procedures around the world and has given expert evidence for tribunals and courts in England (London), U.S.A. (New York), Germany, the Netherlands and Spain. His advice is used by P&I Clubs, shipowners, operators, charterers, semi-governmental bodies and he has written several articles on loss prevention in his area of expertise. Jeroen is a guest lecturer of the Dutch Shipping and Transport College, organises yearly claims seminars for the Dutch Maritime Industry and practical training courses for the international shipping industry. He has also given a number of Master Classes to law students at the Rotterdam High School and Rotterdam Erasmus University and provides traineeships for graduates. He is a speaker at many international marine conferences. Jeroen de Haas is a member of The Nautical Institute, a chartered expert with the Dutch Association of Registered Surveyors (NIVRE), a member of the Dutch Society for Maritime and Transport Law and a member of the Dutch Anchorites.
Martijn de Vos
Marine Surveyor
Martijn has a bachelor degree in Ports, Transport & Logistics. He joined BMT Surveys in 2013 after 7 years of marine surveying at different companies. Over the years, Martijn has handled high profile cases and investigated major national and international claims in connection with various sorts of cargo claims, occurred during all types of transport, storage and or handling. Martijn is stationed in Rotterdam and is a Registered surveyor with the Dutch Association of Registered Surveyors (NIVRE).
Nico van Duijvenbode
Manager, Refrigerated Cargoes
Nico has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Studies. He has a Sea-going career as a Deck Officer on general cargo, reefer and tanker vessels. He has been a Marine Cargo surveyor since 1989 and a former Manager for an Italian transport firm. Nico joined BMT Surveys in 2003 and is a Registered surveyor with Dutch Association of Registered Surveyors.
Olivier van der Kruijs
Director, Risk and Quality & Marine Surveyor
Olivier has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical studies and Marine Engineering. He also has a Degree in Informatics, Technical University Delft. Olivier has seven years seagoing experience as Maritime Officer with engineering specialisation on board of different vessels. He is a qualified lead auditor for ISM systems. Subsequently he was a marine surveyor for two years with another survey company and six years as risk manager / technical advisor with a P&I Club. Olivier joined BMT Surveys in 2007 as marine technical surveyor and international survey network coordinator. Olivier is Director Risk & Quality.
Paddy Rynders
Director Amsterdam Office / Marine Surveyor
Paddy has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Studies. He has seagoing experience up to the rank of Chief Officer on board of heavy lift transport vessels, tankers, general cargo vessels and coastal vessels. He has been a marine cargo surveyor since 1999 and a former lecturer at the Dutch Nautical College. Furthermore he is a registered surveyor with Dutch Association of Registered Surveyors.
Peer van Oosterhout
Technical Director / Marine Surveyor
Peer has a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering at the Nautical Academy in Flushing. Seagoing experience as a Marine Engineer followed by shorebased non-marine (automation) work, before joining the Rotterdam survey staff in 1991.
Peter Knol
Marine Surveyor
Peter is a qualified mariner and marine engineer with 7 years of service at sea on board several types of vessels including (petro) chemical tankers, up to the rank of second officer. He has also worked as Safety Officer with the Dutch Pilot Association where he was responsible for the implementation and compliance of the safety management system (ISM). He is also a qualified ISO 9001 auditor.
Robert Hekker
Marine Surveyor
Robert has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical studies and Marine Engineering. He als has a degree in economics, banking and insurance from the High School Rotterdam. He has seagoing experience as Maritime Officer on various types of vessels. Experience as cargo quality controller with chemical inspectorate. Robert joined BMT Surveys in 2007.
Ronald Radder
Marine Surveyor
Ronald has six years of seagoing experience on board passenger ships, general cargo and heavy lift transports, up to the rank of second maritime officer with both nautical and technical qualifications. Ronald joined the technical staff of BMT Surveys in 2006.
Teun Strijbosch
Marine Surveyor
Teun has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical studies and Marine Engineering. Sea-going experience up to the rank of Chief Officer on board various types of vessels, including heavy lift, general cargo and container vessels. Teun joined BMT Surveys in 2008 as Marine / Cargo surveyor.
Thomas Hendrikx
Marine Surveyor
Thomas has a Bachelor of Science in Nautical studies and Marine Engineering. He is a Master mariner with engineering qualifications and experience on board dry cargo vessels, including reefer vessels and container ships. In his surveying career at BMT, Thomas has also gained significant expertise in investigating claims relating to bulk shipments and food risk. Clients have called upon to apply his knowledge to matters arising from cargo contamination, pollution, food safety and risk management whether carried in bulk, containers or in refrigerated / controlled atmospheres. Thomas joined BMT Surveys in 2006.
Yrjo Migchelsen
Marine Surveyor and Fire Investigator
Yrjo has a Bachelor of Science in marine engineering and nautical studies at Nautical Academy Amsterdam, with 10 years sailing experience on various types of vessels up to the rank of Chief Engineer. Sailed as Chief Engineer for 6 years, followed by a career ashore as technical manager with a rolling equipment company. Yrjo is a Certified Fire Investigator under IAAI. Yrjo started with BMT Surveys in 2010.
