The name Burness Corlett Three Quays is synonymous with naval architecture and vessel design. Principal Consultant Surveyor
Nigel holds a BA in engineering, an MBA and a First Class Certificate of Competency in marine engineering. After 16 years seagoing experience he spent 13 years as an Engineering Fleet Superintendent with experience of container ships, bulk carriers, and chemical tankers. After 6 years as a marine surveyor including a senior position with an independent maritime survey company he joined BCTQ in 2003. He specialises in all types of survey work, including commercial vessels and luxury yachts, relating to new building disputes, bunker disputes and technical investigation of main and auxiliary machinery failures. He has presented oral evidence in arbitration and court hearings.
Principal Consultant - Marine Safety & Marine Surveying
Rod holds a First Class Certificate of Competency in marine engineering. He is also a Health and Safety, Quality and Environment Auditor and a Petroleum and Gas Tanker Safety Instructor. He has 14 years sea-going experience onboard oil and gas tankers, bulk carriers and general cargo vessels. On coming ashore he was for 10 years a Project Manager with the Ministry of Defence responsible for mechanical, electrical and civil engineering work and quality assurance at several military bases. He joined the Marine Safety and Survey Services division of BCTQ in 1996 and undertakes safety training and audits onboard oil and gas tankers, bulk carriers, container ships, general cargo ships, FPSOs, offshore vessels and nuclear flask carriers. He provides advice to owners on OCIMF inspections and the requirements of oil majors. He has considerable experience providing assistance to shipping companies implementing safety management systems in Europe and the USA.
