Andrzej Jasionowski
Partner & Naval Architect
Dr Andrzej Jasionowski is Partner at Brookes Bell and Director of Stability and Ship Dynamics at Safety at Sea. He holds a PhD in damaged vessel hydrodynamics and simulation from the University of Strathclyde (2002). He has specialised since 1995 in the application of advanced numeric techniques for stability, hydrodynamics, ship flooding simulations, probabilistic assessment of time to sink and capsize, holistic risk quantification, and forensics of collision, grounding, safe port, foundering. He has advised on the total losses of several ships including bulk carriers, MV DERBYSHIRE, ropax, MV ESTONIA, MV NAPOLEON BONAPARTE, roro HYUNDAI No.105, rock carrier MV ROCKNESS, offshore semisubmersible, DEEP WATER HORIZON, among others. He has advised government organisations on regulatory developments for risk mitigation. He has developed advanced decision support systems for effective operation and flooding crises management, and supported the design development of several significant new building projects. He is an author of many articles published in journals, conferences and books.
Gonzalo Azqueta
Naval Architect
Gonzalo Azqueta graduated with a Master's degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of Strathclyde in 2010, where he continued PhD education as part of the UK's EPSRC-funded Low Carbon Shipping Project. During his post-graduate time at University, he researched on the application of Fuel Cell Technology for on-board power generation. Gonzalo joined Brookes Bell R&D as a Research Engineer and has been involved in: Dynamic energy modelling, Sensitivity analysis, Simulation and modelling for marine systems and auxiliary equipment.
Ivan Todorov
Master Mariner
Ivan Todorov is a Master Mariner. He joined Brookes Bell in November 2014 following 9 months as Marine Safety Quality Superintendent with DS Tankers GmbH, Hamburg, during which time he was responsible for conducting independent internal navigation, ISM, ISPS, MLC and SIRE pre-vetting audits. He sailed as master for 5 years on board Aframax and VLCC tankers for Sanko Ship Management. He has also served on product tankers, bulk carriers and general cargo vessels. During a year's secondment period with KOTC, Fleet Operations Group, he was responsible for operation and post-fixture of 4 VLCCs, 3 product tankers and 2 LPG carriers.
Mimi Gao
Naval Architect
Mimi is a Naval Architect with a BEng degree in Naval Architecture and a PhD degree in computational fluid dynamics. She has a strong background in different numerical methods for applications in both structural and fluid mechanics. She developed own CFD code which can solve the large motion and large amplitude wave problems. After graduation, she worked in both academy and industry on various projects in China and Singapore. She is an author of many articles published in journals, conferences and one patent filed in four countries.
Muhammad Afifi
Loss Adjuster & Offshore Engineer
Afifi graduated with a BSc (Hons) degree in Civil Engineering, majoring in Offshore Structure and Oceanography from University Teknologi PETRONAS. Afifi spent the first year of his career in civil construction work before joining Oil and Gas Transportation and Installation Industry for 6 years. He has been directly involved in Offshore Platform and Pipeline Fabrication, Load out, Transportation, Installation, Hook-up and Commissioning work. Afifi has a wide range of experience gained from some 640 days of offshore assignment in the capacity of Field Engineer/Installation Engineer within both Green and Brown field in Malaysia waters. Seeking a new challenge, Afifi decided to move into Loss Adjusting with Brookes Bell Singapore in January 2015. Using experience from working with major offshore installation contractors previously, he is specialising in Construction All Risk claims. Afifi joined Brookes Bell Singapore in January 2015.
Nigel Carpenter
Partner & Loss Adjuster
Following an early career at sea, Nigel resumed full-time education to gain a Bachelor degree in Nautical Studies before joining the average adjusting profession in 1983. After training with Richards Hogg in London, he worked in their Sydney office and from 1990 managed the Manila office. In 1992, Nigel returned to London with Richards Hogg to lead their energy loss adjusting business and, in 1997, moved to Steege Kingston. In 2001, Nigel became CEO and successfully developed Steege's global energy loss adjusting business initially as an independent company and latterly as part of Braemar Shipping Services Plc., during which time he handled numerous high profile cases and led major catastrophe responses to Gulf of Mexico Hurricanes. Seeking a new challenge Nigel left Braemar in 2011 and subsequently joined Brookes Bell, relocating with them to establish a new office in Singapore in 2012. He has returned to front line energy adjusting in Asia using his extensive experience handling complex claims in the region and globally. His experience spans offshore property and loss of production income, shipyard builder's risks, subsea vehicles, hull and machinery and loss of hire, with offshore construction claims being Nigel's specialty. Nigel has also acted on expert witness matters concerning energy insurance claims practice, offshore repair costs and contracting issues.
Paul Davidson
Partner & Master Mariner
Paul Davidson is a Master Mariner with a BTEC in Nautical Science. He joined Brookes Bell in 2008 from a position as Marine Surveyor with the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) where he carried out Port State Control inspections, Flag State surveys, ISM audits and undertook oral examinations of Masters and Mates. Paul became a partner in 2015. Prior to joining the MCA he spent four years as Fleet Marine Superintendent following over 16 years at sea. During his time at sea, he served on a variety of vessels including coastal clean oil tankers, container vessels, multi-service vessels, passenger ferries, freight Ro-Ro’s, anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS), semi-submersible mobile offshore drilling units (MODU), mining vessels, drill ships and cruise vessels, serving in all ranks up to Chief Officer. His main surveying and consultancy experience is in the field of collision investigations; liquefaction of solid bulk cargoes; charter party disputes including speed and performance claims; hull fouling and paint condition; hold cleaning disputes; unsafe port disputes; cargo damage; piracy issues; container vessels; towage; and offshore vessels and oil rigs. Paul has prepared technical reports for, and has given expert witness testimony at arbitrations and Crown Court in the United Kingdom.
Yeo Min
Loss Adjuster & Drilling Engineer
Yeo Min graduated with a BEng degree in civil engineering and since 2007 has been working for a well engineering consultancy specialising in Casing Design, HPHT Wells, Well Control Engineering and Well Integrity Management. Over the last 7 years, Yeo Min has been highly involved in delivering a myriad of well engineering assignments including expert witness investigations for NOPSEMA and BSEE, well control engineering support, HPHT engineering during the planning and execution phases of a well, and numerous well integrity failure investigations. Having developed proficiency in the area of well integrity, she has also written several Well Integrity Management documents for operating companies wanting to adopt international Well Integrity best practices for wells over the entire lifecycle. Yeo Min joined Brookes Bell Singapore in November 2014.
