Our company has been providing maritime services for a total of 33 years in the Miami area and has expanded to key areas throughout the United States to better serve our customers needs. Marine terminal damage and cargo spillage investigations, including HAZMAT spills. Inspection of dry cargo, bulk cargo, refrigerated cargo, vehicles, count and condition, HAZMAT loading and securing, pre-shipment surveys, vessel loading and outturn surveys – including heavy lift, high value and energy cargo. Inspection of lashing of cargo on flat racks to confirm compliance with the IMO Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing, Annex 13. Recommended repair procedures for damages to intermodal equipment. Certification of DNV 2.7-1 offshore containers, shipper owned containers for CSC and regulatory compliance. John S. Shields

Resident Surveyor
Mr. Shields has extensive experience with shipboard propulsion and power generation systems, auxiliary machinery, cranes, and refrigeration systems and the process of determining their root-cause for failure and/or lack of performance. Since the opening of the Philadelphia, PA office of AMS in 1996 Mr. Shields has been involved in numerous Hull & Machinery investigations. His office conducts an average of 30 to 40 surveys per year. A large percentage are Hull & Machinery surveys involving groundings, Main Engine Failures, Damaged Steering gear, Auxiliary Engine Failures, Turbo-Charger Failures, Contaminated Lube Oil Systems, Contaminated Fuel Oil, etc.
Matthew R. Salkeld

Senior Staff Surveyor
During his four (4) years attending the United States Merchant Marine Academy, Mr. Salkeld spent three (3) years of classroom study learning navigation, watch standing, as well as cargo handling, carriage and stowage skills. He also spent one (1) year sailing aboard U.S. flag merchant vessels in the capacity of deck cadet and able bodied seaman. His duties aboard these vessels were watch standing, navigation and general cargo handling and stowage. During his seventeen (17) year career as a marine surveyor, Mr. Salkeld has conducted well over 2,000 individual survey assignments on various marine insured products. The majority of these products have been steel in the form of plate, coils, sheets, wire rod and pipe. The balance of the assignments include bulk grains/minerals, product/oil tankers, coffee, various machinery, heavy lifts, project cargo and furniture. He has been directly involved with the claims settling of many of these products, as well as loss prevention methods. He was also acknowledged as a contributor on page ix in the 5th edition of “Steel: Carriage by Sea” written by Arthur Sparks and Frans Coppers.
Rick W. Lensschow

Principal Marine Surveyor
Rick has been surveying yachts and small craft since 1993. During this time he has completed over 4,000 surveys and earned the designation of Accredited Marine Surveyor (AMS) with the Society of Marine Surveyors. Assignments have included yacht condition and value surveys, yacht damage appraisals resulting from sinking, collisions, grounding, theft, accidental fire, arson, vandalism, manufacturer’s defects and maintenance failures. Rick has provided expert witness testimony in multiple cases, in IL and WI. Other assignments include inland and ocean marine cargo claims. Prior to becoming a marine surveyor Rick was employed as a service manager, marine technician and rigger at marinas in Illinois and New Hampshire. Responsibilities as a marine technician included partial and complete overhauling of 2 and 4 cycle engines, stern drives, gearcases and related assemblies. During the course of being employed as a marine technician, Rick earned the title of Certified Technician from Mercruiser Marine, Mercury Outboards, OMC Stern Drives, Johnson/Evinrude Outboards, American Marine Institute and Pleasure Craft Marine (PCM). Rick attended several seminars presented by boat, engine, electronics and other manufacturers. Rick has presented several continuing education classes to insurance adjusters pertaining to 2 and 4 cycle engine losses, and stern drive and gearcase losses.
Rolando Roberto Santos
President & Owner
Mr. Santos has extensive experience with shipboard systems, Gantry Cranes, Bromma Spreader systems and the process of determining their root-cause for failure and/or lack of performance. Since the inception of his company in 1982 Mr. Santos has been involved in numerous Hull & Machinery investigations. His company conducts an average of 1000 surveys per year. A large percentage are Hull & Machinery surveys involving groundings, Main Engine Failures, Damaged Steering gear, Auxiliary Engine Failures, Turbo-Charger Failures, Contaminated Lube Oil Systems, Contaminated Fuel Oil, etc. Mr. Santos also has extensive experience as an Offshore Sailboat Racer. Mr. Santos owned a Santana 525 ex-“Cat Dancing”, Soverel 33 ex-“Blue Angel”, Olson 30 ex-“Sting Ray”, J-30 ex-“Cigar” and currently owns an S2 9.1M “Old School”. Since graduating from USMMA where he skippered a Frers 40 ex-“Gambler” Mr. Santos has won numerous class races including a 1st in class in the 1997 Columbus Day Regatta hosted in Biscayne Bay, FL with the J-30 ex-“Cigar”.
